External Fellowships

The Graduate School administers the following external fellowship awards:

National Science Foundation
The National Science Foundation's Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based doctoral degrees at accredited US institutions. The NSF welcomes applications from all qualified students and strongly encourages under-represented populations, including women, under-represented racial and ethnic minorities, and persons with disabilities, to apply for this fellowship.

Ford Foundation
Through its Fellowship Programs, the Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nationís college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.

Haynes Foundation
Each year, the Haynes Foundation distributes up to $3 million in grants and scholarships to various institutions which are used to encourage study and research into the underlying causes of social problems in Los Angeles and to recommend ways of addressing them. Over the years, the Foundation has funded hundreds of important urban studies in the areas of education, transportation, local government, elections, public safety, demographics, public personal services and natural resources. In doing so, the Foundation has remained true to its founder's philosophy of promoting "the social betterment of mankind."
