Elenore Neufeld

Dornsife, Philosophy, Faculty Advisor: Robin Jeshion

The idea at the heart of Elenore’s dissertation project, Causal Structures in Language and Thought, is that conceptual categories encode not only broad sets of features but also causal notions and causal information. Though somewhat foreign within philosophy, the idea has been advanced in cognitive science in order to explain our categorization behavior. Elenore’s research spans the philosophy of language, philosophy of mind and cognitive science, and social philosophy. She has published in Philosopher’s Imprint, Synthese, Australasian Journal of Philosophy and Consciousness and Cognition, described by her advisor as top-tier philosophy journals and among the hardest to publish in. Starting August 2020, Elenore will be an Assistant Professor in the Philosophy Department of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
