Carolyn Choi

Dornsife, Sociology, Faculty Advisor: Rhacel Parrenas

According to her advisor, Carolyn’s dissertation holds tremendous promise for expanding our knowledge of globalization, including the globalization of education, the diverse configurations of migration and transnational stratification. Carolyn’s work bridges discussions of Asia and Asian American Studies. In 2019, she was awarded the Korea Foundation, Graduate Studies Fellowship, the year before, she travelled to South Korea as the recipient of a Fulbright Research Award. Carolyn’s work has also been supported by scholarships from the Social Science Research Council and the US Department of Education, Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship. Carolyn is the co-author of a children’s book for Dottir Press and has many peer reviewed articles and book chapters, including “Moonlighting in the Nightlife”, an article that was awarded the Best Graduate Student Paper by the American Sociological Association in 2017. She has been offered postdoctoral appointments at both Stanford and Dartmouth Universities for the fall.
