Ian Thacker

Rossier, Urban Education Policy, Faculty Advisor: Gale Sinatra

Ian’sresearch, broadly speaking, investigates mathematics and science teaching, learning, and teacher education. He has pursued a research agenda that supports STEMlearning for diverse learners and explores the role of attitudes, emotions, beliefs, biases, andinterdisciplinary knowledge. For work published in the Journal of EducationalPsychology, Research in Mathematics Education, and Educational Sciences, Ian designed engaginglearning environments that leverage students’ informal understandings for the learning ofchallenging topics in STEM and highlight the influence of attitudes and emotions therein. His dissertation earned the APA Division 15 Dissertation Research Award as well as the Scholarly Consortium for Innovative Psychology in Education Graduate Student Poster Award. Ian will join the tenure track faculty at the University of Texas at San Antonio in the fall.
