Faculty Advisor: Fengzhu Sun
Jie joined USC after completing a B.S. in Information and Computing Sciences with Minzu University and a M.S. in Probability and Statistics from Peking University of China. With the rapid development of biotechnologies, “omics” data, such as whole genomes, metagenomes, transcriptomes, and proteomes, are growing at an exponential rate. Jie’s research has focused on modeling and comparing genomic and metagenomics sequences, including both fundamental theoretical work on statistical inferences and real world applications of biological problems. Jie has received several honors and awards, including USC Provost’s PhD Fellowship and the CAMs Graduate Student Prize for Excellence in Research with a Substantial Mathematical Component, a university-wide honor only awarded to two students per year. Jie has also been published in journals and presented at several conferences.
